The Buffalo Mass Mob is heading to the city’s Saint Lawrence Church on Sunday, February 26, 2017 for noon Mass. This will be the twentieth Mass Mob the group has staged since it was founded in 2013 to help raise awareness of inner city churches and give the church a boost. The concept is simple. The group picks a church and asks the public to come en masse to worship on a selected Sunday. The events are almost entirely organized through social media.
In addition to bringing the Mass Mob to Saint Lawrence, the group is raising funds to help the parish meet its goal to replace the roof on the church building. The parish has been fundraising for over a year while the building has a blue tarp across to prevent leaks and damage. A GoFundMe page has been set up by Buffalo Mass Mob. The initial goal was to raise $500 before the date of Mass Mob XX, but that was reached in one day after effort launched. Now with over $3000 raised, the group is hoping to raise even more before February 26. Christopher Byrd of Buffalo Mass Mob says, “We were blown away when we met the goal quickly. Buffalo is such a giving and caring community. Our group decided to keep the effort going. Whatever we raise will go a long way to help the church get a new roof.”

The Saint Lawrence parish community is also happy for the support. “We are so excited that Mass Mob is coming here to help us out,” says Fr. Ronald Sajdak. “Seeing people outside the parish supporting the effort is a real affirmation, not only for our small parish community, but for all the work we’re doing in the community with all the ministries. It says that the church community, though we’re small in number, has tremendous value to the neighborhood and around.”
The Buffalo Mass Mob is also asking people coming to Mass Mob XX to bring a non perishable food item to donate to the parish’s Rev. Joseph F. Moreno Food Pantry. While anything is welcome, the pantry is especially in need of jelly, tea bags, salt and baked beans.
Saint Lawrence Church is located at 1520 East Delavan Ave, Buffalo, NY 14215.
